Richardson Housing Group (RHG) wishes you a very Happy Halloween!  Here are some tips that will help make your evening festivities safe and fun for everyone.

  • If your child has a dark-colored costume, adhere some reflective safety-tape to the outfit, to ensure they are visible at night time.
  • Each person in the trick-or-treating party should have his or her own flashlight to ensure they can see and be seen in the evening.
  • Always look both ways before crossing the street, and use crosswalks whenever possible.  Children should always walk on sidewalks or on far edge of the roadway facing traffic. Parents or responsible adults should always accompany the smallest trick-or-treaters.
  • Before you greet trick-or-treaters at your own home, remove any tripping hazards on your front steps and front porch, and sweep leaves away from the sidewalks and steps.
  • Before your children dig into the candy, inspect their loot thoroughly and toss any treats that seem spoiled, unwrapped, or otherwise suspicious.  Parents who have children with food allergies should be especially vigilant and remove any candy that may be unsafe.
