Ways to Give Back this Holiday Season

This holiday season, there are numerous ways to give back to the less fortunate in the community. Check out these volunteer opportunities with local organizations in Atlanta!

acfbThe Atlanta Community Food Bank has a variety of programs designed to feed the hungry and provide essential supplies for Atlanta area families. There are opportunities to volunteer individually or with your family or friends.   At the Product Rescue Center, you can inspect, sort, and pack grocery donations. The Kids in Need program provides school supplies free of charge to teachers in low-income areas; you can come and help teachers “shop” at the Kids in Need Warehouse. On the Grocery Floor, you’ll get to be a “personal shopper” by helping partner agencies select and load groceries into vehicles. If you have a green thumb, you can volunteer at a Community Garden and assist with gardening, clean-up, plant rescue, and produce collection. For more information, visit the Atlanta Community Food Bank website.

choaChildren’s Healthcare of Atlanta is a great place to volunteer with your entire family. They accept volunteers from Kindergarten-age to adults to provide administrative support, explore healthcare professions, help with visitors, host special events, work in the gift shop, and interact with patients. Opportunities are available at the primary hospital facilities as well as neighborhood locations throughout metro Atlanta. Visit the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta volunteer website for more information.

There are numerous Co-Operatives throughout Gwinnett County that help provide food, clothing, and utility and prescription medication assistance to local residents. Each Co-Op features opportunities to sponsor a child or senior citizen for Christmas; assist in the thrift store; sort food drive donations; and help prepare holiday meal boxes.
