Giving Thanks During the Holiday Season
During the busyness of Thanksgiving, it’s easy to forget the most important part of the holiday – being thankful! Here are some tips to help you and your family focus on the true reason for the season.
Make a Gratitude List
There’s always a reason to be thankful. List out everything you’re grateful for – start general (family, friends, your home, etc.) and get more specific. You’ll be amazed at all the blessings you can count when you really dwell on being thankful. Consider buying a gratitude journal for yourself and your family members, or check out these other creative ways to list your blessings.
Volunteer in Your Community
Donate your time and energy this year to helping those who need it most during the holidays. Check out the several opportunities listed at Hands On Atlanta, which represents over 400 volunteer organizations in the Atlanta area. You can also keep an ear out for volunteer opportunities through your local school, church, and other community organizations. Look for activities that will involve your children as well.
Tune out the distractions and busyness of the holiday season by getting outdoors. Head to your favorite park to enjoy nature, or take a longer trip to the mountains or beach to get away from the hustle and bustle. If you’re by yourself, take time to pray or meditate. There’s nothing like the brisk fall air and sounds of nature to remind you of what is really important in life.
Create a New Tradition
Pick a fun new activity to enjoy with friends and family this holiday season. Ideas include running a 5K, making a surprise basket of goodies for your neighbor, or spending the day in PJs and reading your favorite books aloud. Whatever tradition you decide to begin, the most important part will be the priceless memories you make with your loved ones.
