This Christmas, teach your family the true meaning of the season by giving to others in your community. Here are some opportunities in Atlanta for the whole family to volunteer.
Hosea’s Feed the Hungry has been serving Atlanta families with food, clothing, medical care, and more for over 40 years. At the annual Hosea’s Feed the Homeless Christmas Dinner, your family can volunteer to serve a holiday meal or help deliver meals to senior citizens and disabled individuals around the city. Another fun opportunity to help is the Hosea’s Children’s Christmas Party, which treats children from low-income families with toys, entertainment, and food. For more information on events with Hosea’s Feed the Hungry, visit this website.
Each year, radio station 104.7 the Fish hosts its Christmas Wish program. Visit one of several Atlanta area Chick-fil-a’s to browse through tablets and find a family or individual with a need you can meet. There are a variety of needs, including home and car repair, gifts for Christmas, and monetary assistance. Christmas Wish also accepts monetary donations online. For more information, visit the Christmas Wish website.
This year marks the 27th for Clark’s Christmas Kids, hosted by longtime Atlanta radio personality Clark Howard. Clark’s Christmas Kids provides gifts for foster children in Georgia who may otherwise not receive any gifts at Christmas. Simply visit one of many Atlanta-area Wal-Marts and select a child or children, shop for the items they request, and drop them off before you leave. This is a fantastic opportunity for your kids to tangibly experience giving back to other kids. For more information, visit the Clark’s Christmas Kids website.
Each Christmas, the North Gwinnett Cooperative distributes holiday meals to families in need throughout the community. This year, the organization plans to provide over 1,700 meals! Your family can help by donating a holiday meal box, which will include everything to make delicious holiday dishes as well as a small gift card donation. You can also donate funds for the Cooperative to provide the holiday meal box to families. For more information, visit the Cooperative’s holiday volunteer program website.
