Atlanta has been enjoying unseasonably warm weather this week, even hitting record highs in some areas! If you have been stuck indoors most of the winter with cold and dreary weather, we’d like to remind you of all the fantastic outdoor attractions in Atlanta. Be sure to gather with your family and friends at one of these fun, family-friendly local destinations this weekend!

Piedmont Park

Originally designed in the 19th century, Piedmont Park boasts more than 180 acres of active and passive recreational space in the heart of Atlanta. Several trails meander throughout the park, each providing fantastic views of the Atlanta skyline. Take your furry friend to the special off-leash dog park, where your pet will have tons of space to run around and play. There are also multiple playground for the kids. The Mayor’s Grove Playground is surrounded by beautiful trees and offers sensory-rich structures specifically designed for children of all ages and abilities. Children will also love the Noguchi Playscape – designed by a world-renowned artist, the playground features a variety of equipment with a range of shapes, textures, and colors. When you’re ready for a bite to eat, enjoy a picnic lunch from home or check out the several restaurants and coffee shops adjacent to the park. Once spring and summer arrive, the park will open the splash pad and aquatics center, and there will be a variety of outdoor events and festivals. For more information on Piedmont Park, visit the Piedmont Park Conservancy website.

Atlanta Botanical Garden

Located right next to the park is the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Spanning over 30 acres, the gardens include a variety of exhibits and natural areas that showcase blooms and lush foliage unlike any you’ve ever seen. Visit the Fuqua Orchid Center to see a rare collection of high-elevation orchids. The whole family will love the Kendeda Canopy Walk – elevated 40 feet in the area, you can explore the garden among the treetops, getting a unique perspective of the surrounding woodland area. The smallest ones will adore the Children’s Garden, which includes a treehouse area with climbing nets, a water “painting” wall, and an exhibit of pitcher plants and Venus flytraps!  This weekend, enjoy the 2018 Flower Show, which will highlight thousands of beautiful and fragrant plants. For more information, visit the Atlanta Botanical Garden website.

Atlanta BeltLine

The Atlanta BeltLine is a 22-mile network of trails and open spaces that wind through some of Atlanta’s oldest and most charming neighborhoods. Bring your bikes, scooters, and pets and explore the trail and hidden gems along the way. There are seven parks along the trail that include a variety of activities, including a skatepark, multi-use activity fields, and numerous playgrounds. Fitness classes, yoga classes, and group hikes take place along the BeltLine year-round. There is also a variety of public art located along the trail, including more than 100 murals, sculptures, and interactive art pieces. Stone Mountain Park

Holding the title of Georgia’s most-visited attraction, Stone Mountain Park features over 3,000 acres of park land and attractions, centered around the world’s largest piece of exposed granite! This is the final weekend for Snow Mountain, which offers single and family snow tubing and an incredible snow play area. Head to the top of the mountain on the Summit Skyride, a cable car that travels 825 feet to the top of Stone Mountain. There is also a walk-up trail to the mountaintop, where you will enjoy amazing bird’s eye views of the park and Downtown Atlanta. Several seasonal attractions will open in March, including the popular lasershow on the lawn, the scenic railroad, dinosaur-themed play areas, ropes course, and water play area! Make it a getaway by camping overnight or staying at one of the park’s two beautiful hotels. For more information, visit the Stone Mountain Park website.
