Tips for a Terrific Thanksgiving Holiday

Thanksgiving Day is almost here!  Consider these ideas to help make your holiday memorable and stress-free.

  1. Clean out your fridge and freezer.

One of the perks of cooking a huge Thanksgiving feast is the leftovers you will have for days and weeks to come!  The week of the holiday, assess what is in your freezer and refrigerator, and discard anything that is old or unlikely to be eaten.

  1. Plan your menu.

Turkey is a given, but what about the rest of the meal?  Your menu may include traditional sides such as mashed potatoes and green bean casserole, or you may want to introduce a new dish this year.  Some guests may have dietary restrictions – make sure there is enough variety for everyone to enjoy their meal.

  1. Think about your seating areas.

Are you planning an intimate dinner, or a large buffet-style meal?  Make sure everyone has a place to sit while eating.  Consider adding card tables for extra seating or designating a special area for kids to sit.

  1. Keep appetizers easy.

No doubt your family and friends will need something to snack on before the big meal.  Keep appetizers simple – think cheese and an assortments of crackers, a fruit tray, or cut-up vegetables with dip.

  1. Entertain the little ones.

Whether you have small kids of your own, or are hosting grandchildren, nieces, or nephews, have some fun activities planned for the little ones.  Ask a teenager or other adult to help them with fun crafts, or take them outside for a game of ball or freeze tag.

  1. Relax!

Schedule your meal prep such that you have at least 30 minutes before the meal to get yourself ready or enjoy the company of your guests.

  1. Give thanks.

Even if the meal doesn’t turn out perfectly, keep a grateful heart, and remember to give thanks for your family, friends, and all the other blessings in your life.
