In 2007, average home size peaked at 2,521 square feet. That figure has steadily decreased since then, currently averaging 2,400 square feet in size. What’s the reason for this trend? New homebuyers are less interested in formal living rooms and formal dining rooms, opting instead for spacious great rooms and large eat-in kitchens. The modern home buyer is also more concerned about energy efficiency and “green” building practices. Therefore, new homes are more likely to have covered porches, ceiling fans, and other energy-saving features to help cool homes in the warm months.
