Local Fun for Kids this Summer

School’s out for summer! Several area schools closed out the 2018-2019 school year last week, and many more will finish up this week. Worried about keeping those kids entertained at home this summer? Metro Atlanta is full of great activities to keep your kids active and still learning. Here are just a few of the hundreds of options:

Splash Pads

Beat the heat this summer with a trip to one of Metro Atlanta’s super cool water features. There are splash zones across the area, from big to small and everything in between. Splash pads are a safer option for small children than swimming pools, and they are certainly a lot of fun! Check HERE for links to some of the best, and be sure to call ahead for operation hours.

Water Parks

Need more thrills this summer when you’re cooling off? From Lake Lanier to Six Flags and local aquatic centers, there are water parks at every price point to suit your family. Some even have overnight packages and season passes available. Click HERE for a great list of water parks so you can start sliding!

Museums

Visit the Center for Puppetry Arts, the College Football Hall of Fame, or the Children’s Museum of Atlanta, where special programs are scheduled all summer long for their youngest visitors. For a list of great museums and attractions in and around Atlanta, visit Atlanta Parent.

Lake Lanier

There’s nothing like a day on the lake when it’s hot outside. Visit one of Lake Lanier’s dozens of free or low-cost public parks with beach and swimming access. Bring a picnic lunch, a lawn chair, and your towel to stay for the day and soak up the Georgia sunshine. A complete list of Lake Lanier Parks and associated fees can be found HERE.

Summer Day Camps

Day Camps are a great way to let your children have some independence and continue learning this summer. Atlanta Parent has a comprehensive list of day camps in and around Atlanta. There is something for every kid, from ballet, art, science, and technology camps. If you’re interested, call soon, because they fill up quickly!

We know keeping your kids busy in the summer months can be exhausting work. We hope these few suggestions help you fill up the days and create fantastic family memories that far outlast the dog days of summer!
